Kamik relaunches back to its roots: Canada’s original Bad Weather Boot company

Canada wasn’t built by people waiting for better weather. Kamik has been making boots for those people since 1898. This month, Canada’s industrial heritage boot company, Kamik, relaunches with a new positioning, “Bad Weather Boots”, alongside Weather Reveals Character, their new brand campaign made of real reports from the field. The brand relaunch went live on October 1, 2026.

The Boot That Built Canada

Some things become part of a country without much ceremony. Kamik is one of them. Born 125 years ago, it has made footwear for the country’s worst conditions, and the people who move through them – in Canadian winters that don’t particularly care what you had planned. From early-day pioneers to modern-day workers, from search-and-rescue teams to kids who don’t whine about walking to school when it’s snowing sideways, Kamik makes boots for real work in real weather. It’s a piece of Canadian history still worn every day.

Weather Reveals Character

There’s another side to Kamik’s history. The people inside the boots. Spend a century on people’s feet and you learn a few things about them.

“In comfort, we’re all the same,” says Fern Breslaw, Vice President of Brand & Creative at Kamik. “In extremes, character shows up. That’s the idea behind this campaign”.

At a time that obsesses over image and ease, Kamik stands for the opposite: the kind of people difficult conditions make. Not people who love hardship. People who have learned to deal with it. That temperament has built a culture, rooted in Quebec originally, and now in many regions worldwide. Kamik didn’t invent that character. It’s simply spent more than 125 years making boots for it.

The brand’s goal is to give this character a voice. Documenting real people in real conditions, reports from the field provides that platform. It’s an open call. Consumers can “file a report” and share their photos, videos and experiences. Many will be selected to run across video, social, influencer partnerships and out-of-home advertising in Canada, the U.S., and Europe.

Built for Bad Weather. All of It.

“Kamik has been making boots for lousy conditions for more than 125 years. Somewhere along the line, we forgot what we were for,” says Conrad Tappert, CEO of Kamik. “This relaunch, both product and brand, is about owning who we’ve been all along”.

Kamik’s significant pipeline of new products in development will be segmented by Frontline, developed alongside defense, emergency response and public service personnel; Industry, certified boots built for people who earn a living outdoors; Woodland, boots designed for hunting, snowmobiling and any weekend that starts in the dark and ends in mud and snow; and lastly, Everyday Grind, boots for the rest of us.

A big advantage is traction underfoot. Ground-Ctrl Rubber™ is Kamik’s proprietary compound, built on generations of learning what Canadian winters do to rubber. You won’t find it on anyone else’s boots. It’s the base layer for staying upright. It doesn’t crack. Unlike most people.

The plan isn’t subtle: Position Kamik to dominate a new category altogether. “Owning bad weather. Period.”, says Tappert. “For over a century we’ve made boots for people who understand that how you meet the elements – rain, snow, muck, slush – reveals who you truly are.”

Some stay inside. Some don’t.  We make boots for the ones who don’t.
