As temperatures drop and Canadians turn toward comforting seasonal rituals, The Balvenie, renowned for its enduring craftsmanship in single malt Scotch, stirs up a selection of warming serves to complement the season. Handcrafted in Speyside and shaped by generations of tradition, The Balvenie’s spirit-forward serves are designed for moments of stillness, reflection and understated celebration.
“Steeped in tradition yet continually evolving, The Balvenie’s single malts offer layered depth and extraordinary complexity that complement the season,” comments Jamie Johnson, Canadian National Brand Ambassador for The Balvenie. “Rich layers of honeyed sweetness, delicate spice and a long, warming finish stir beautifully into cocktails like the Cherry Tartan and the Dufftown Bodega, offering an ideal companion to crisp evenings and fireside gatherings.”
The Balvenie remains one of the few distilleries to uphold the Five Rare Crafts of whisky making, from home-grown barley to an on-site cooperage. It is this dedication to detail that imparts the distinctive character found in every pour: layers of honeyed richness, subtle spice, and remarkable balance. The Balvenie’s award-winning range of cask-finished whiskies, The Balvenie DoubleWood 12, Caribbean Cask 14 and Sweet Toast of American Oak offer the perfect blend of depth, balance and understated elegance to enjoy during sweater season.
THE BALVENIE DOUBLEWOOD 12 YEAR OLD: THE CHERRY TARTAN
The twelve-year-old single malt gains its distinctive character from being matured in two different cask types, whisky oak and sherry oak, imparting warming layers of vanilla spiciness along with fruity, honeyed depths. In the Cherry Tartan, these notes intertwine beautifully with the nutty richness of amaretto and the delicate dryness of Amontillado sherry. The result is a refined serve that balances complexity with elegance, delivering a cocktail designed for slow moments of savouring.
- 35 ml The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old
- 25 ml Amontillado Sherry
- 15 ml Amaretto
- Maraschino Cherry garnish
Add ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain into a Nick and Nora glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry skewer.
THE BALVENIE SWEET TOAST OF AMERICAN OAK: DUFFTOWN BODEGA
Oozing with elegance, the Dufftown Bodega is an elevated rendition of an Old Fashioned designed to impress. Like silk to taste, the dark chocolate and nuttiness from the Pedro Ximenez complements the spicy notes of The Balvenie Sweet Toast of American Oak, offering a spirit-forward serve as delectable as dessert.
- 50 ml The Balvenie Sweet Toast of American Oak
- 10 ml Pedro Ximénez Sherry
- Barspoon of sugar (2.5 ml)
- 2 dashes of Angostura Bitters
Stir all ingredients with ice and strain over a large block of ice to fit in an Old Fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange twist and a piece of dark chocolate.
THE BALVENIE CARIBBEAN CASK 14 YEAR OLD
The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old has been matured in traditional oak whisky casks for 14 years, and then ‘finished’ in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. The result is a single malt with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie, married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit. With its warm, lingering finish, it’s perfectly paired with the winter season. Enjoy it neat or with a drop of water to indulge in its smooth, honeyed character.
