Insider Tips For Fall Plants + Moving Indoors from Plantd Life

262

As fall inevitably approaches and summer fades, Tara Soloway, interior plant designer and founder of Plantd Life, shares essential tips for transitioning plants indoors for the colder months and some trends for the season ahead.

Moving outdoor plants inside requires careful consideration and care. Here are some of Tara’s vital tips to ensure plants survive and thrive:

Inspect and Clean: Carefully inspect each plant, leaf by leaf, especially the undersides, for bugs, cobwebs, and other critters. Clean the leaves and check the soil thoroughly.

Quarantine: Initially, isolate outdoor plants from indoor plants to prevent any potential pests from spreading.

Lighting and Placement: As daylight decreases, position plants to maximize light exposure. Place them near windows or in the brightest areas of the home to ensure they receive adequate sunlight during the shorter winter days.  Consider installing and investing in grow lights to compensate for reduced natural light. Stylish options are available that can blend seamlessly with décor.

Watering and Fertilizing: Indoor conditions call for less water and fertilizer. Since plants receive less light, their water needs decrease. Carefully monitor each plant’s specific requirements and adjust the watering schedule to prevent overwatering.
