In Japan, the ancient art of aizome—indigo dyeing—has been cultivated for centuries. It has been our honor to partner closely with a family workshop where this craft has been passed down for five generations, each artisan adding their own chapter to a lineage of mastery.
Through their practiced hands, cotton fabric is dyed using fermented Japanese indigo—known as ai—and prepared in decades-old wooden casks. Each piece emerges transformed into countless indelible colour gradients, a blueprint of ongoing dialogue between time-honored wisdom and elemental alchemy.
For this special edition candle, CYPRÈS 21 arrives in a deep blue vessel, housed in a box featuring a custom indigo-gradient label—an homage to the poetry of this extraordinary craft and to the stewards who have dedicated their work to its enduring relevance.
We like to think of CYPRÈS 21 as a cabin deep in the woods, a hushed retreat beyond the reach of buzzing phones and distraction; an antidote to the urgency of modern life.
Bright, rising, resinous cypress is supported by an understory of spicy aromatics: juniper, clove, and star anise, all anchored by the grounding warmth of incense and the seductive spell of patchouli. We can’t promise CYPRÈS 21 will lower your cortisol, but we can offer a moment of pause, and an atmosphere of peace.
