Canadian Basketball Icon Steve Nash Retires at 41 After 19 Years in the NBA

The Canadian basketball icon, Steve Nash will be announcing his retirement today at a live press conference. Tune in to Sportsnet at 4:25pm (ET 1:25) or online at Sportsnet. Nash revealed his retirement decision with a letter on The Player’s Tribune and informally on his Twitter account:

“I’m retiring from basketball,” he tweeted. “Thanks for all the love through the years.” – Nash Steve-Nash-640x360

Retiring as a two-time NBA MVP and eight-time all-star, Nash currently holds the title as the best free-throw shooter in NBA history at 90.4 percent, barely edging Mark Price.

“The greatest gift has been to be completely immersed in my passion and striving for something I loved so much — visualizing a ladder, climbing up to my heroes,” Nash wrote. “The obsession became my best friend.”- Nash

Growing up on the west coast in British Columbia, Nash’s success has brought a new light to the sport in Canada.
