How to Install Insulation in Your Home

2211

Insulating your home helps you save money on your electric bill. It will also keep you warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. If it is going to work efficiently, though, it has to be installed correctly. If you have decided to save a little bit of money and install your new insulation by yourself, there are some things you should know about the following two types of insulation before you start.

Blow-in Insulation

This type of insulation is mainly used in the roof or attic or in attics that have spaces that are hard to reach. The blower that is needed to distribute it can be rented at many home improvement stores. Before you begin using the blower, you need to get everything out of the room where it will be used. Then, get a few rulers and place them in the areas you are insulating. This will allow you to measure and see how much insulation you have used and keep it all at the same level all the way across the room. When that is done, fill the blower with the insulation. Hold your hose out parallel to the floor and turn your blower on. The insulation should blow out about ten feet away from where you are standing. Move the hose back and forth until the area is filled but try not to pack the insulation. If you need to, place your hand in front of the hose to help prevent it from packing, but only do this if you really have to.

Rolled Insulation

This kind of insulation can be use in any part of a house. Many times though, it is used in areas that do not have a lot of obstructions, like wires. Rolled insulation can also come as faced insulation, which is mainly used for the outside walls of a house or in hot water pipe insulation. The first thing you need to do when you get this type of insulation is open it. Make sure that you do not cut into the actual insulation. After it is opened, you will see that it expands into its regular size. You can cut this type into any size or shape that you need, which means it can fit almost anywhere. After you have cut it so that it will fit the area you need to insulate, put it in that area and feather it out so it covers the entire area. You can then leave it there or staple it so that you know it will stay. If you have placed this insulation in the floor, use wire fasteners to keep it in place.

When you are installing any kind of insulation, it is important to be safe. Wear long sleeves to avoid contact with your skin and wear a mask so you do not breathe the insulation in. Installing your new insulation will not be very hard if you understand what you are doing. If you have trouble, do not hesitate to seek the advice of a professional roof insulation company who provide roof installation services and who specialise in exactly the job you maybe struggling with.
