This September marks a milestone in Vancouver’s culinary landscape as Chambar celebrates its 20th anniversary. Since its 2004 debut, Chambar has become a beloved institution, known not only for its unique blend of Belgian and Moroccan flavours but also for shaping the careers of hospitality professionals who have gone on to become leaders in the industry—a phenomenon aptly dubbed by Scout Magazine as the “Chambar Effect”. With its reputation for “civilized debauchery” and commitment to excellence, Chambar’s co-founders, Karri Green-Schuermans and Nico Schuermans, invite the community to join in celebrating two decades of remarkable food, culture, and deep-rooted connection to the city.

Throughout September, Chambar will host a series of enchanting events ranging from experiential dinners to lively celebrations as a way to commemorate this special occasion. “This milestone is a celebration of the shared journey, for us and for the entire community that has supported and shaped Chambar over these two incredible decades,” says Karri Green-Schuermans, co-founder of Chambar.

20TH ANNIVERSARY PARTY
The marquee event takes place on Sunday, September 29, as Chambar hosts a legendary 20th Anniversary Party. The stylish cocktails and canapés soiree begins at 7 p.m. and will feature live entertainment, DJs, and dancing alongside plenty of terrific food from the Chambar kitchen and drinks from the open bar. This will be more than a party—it’s a chance to celebrate the journey that Chambar has taken with guests, partners, friends, staff, and the culinary community of Vancouver. Tickets are priced at $179 per person and are available to purchase now via Chambar’s website.

COMEDY NIGHT DINNER
Before the final 20th anniversary bash, and in an ongoing commitment to spotlight the city’s creative talents, Chambar will host a pair of themed dinners at the restaurant. On Thursday, September 12, from 6-9 p.m., Chambar’s Comedy Night Dinner pairs some of Vancouver’s top comedians with the restaurant’s acclaimed food. Guests will enjoy a three-course dinner featuring Chambar’s signature Belgian-Moroccan cuisine while sharing communal seating. The evening will come live with sharp wit and infectious humour of comedians like Charlie Demers (a favourite on CBC Radio’s The Debaters), JUNO award winners Ivan Decker and Jacob Samuel, and Tokyo-born actress and writer Yumi Nagashima, making for a lively night of fun and connection. Tickets are $135 per person and can be secured online through the restaurant’s website.

CHAMBAR X LOBE EXPERIMENTAL SOUND DINNER
Chambar’s Experimental Sound Dinner, in collaboration with Lobe Spatial Sound Studio, is set to captivate guests on Monday, September 16 and Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. at the restaurant. Priced at $135 per person (plus tax and gratuity), this immersive dining experience merges sound, nature, and cuisine in an innovative format. Edo Van Breemen, co-founder of Lobe, recorded the ambient sounds of Howe Sound alongside Chef Nico Schuermans’ process of foraging, harvesting seafood, and cooking over an open fire. The result is an extra-sensory five-course dinner that bridges the culinary and auditory arts with dishes inspired by the chef’s journey, offering guests an extraordinary communal dining experience that engages multiple senses. Purchase tickets for either night online.

Chambar’s journey is a testament to passion, resilience, and creativity. Over the past 20 years, the restaurant has seen its team grow, its dishes evolve, and its community expand. The anniversary celebrations are a heartfelt thank you to the city and a tribute to the people who have made this journey possible. Throughout the last year, Chambar has been marking this tremendous milestone while setting the stage for the acclaimed dining destination’s continued evolution.

“We’ve always strived to push boundaries and create memorable experiences at Chambar,” said Co-Founder Nico Schuermans. “This anniversary is a chance to celebrate that we’re still here, and re-inspired to make new headway and contribute to Vancouver’s culinary landscape.”
