3rd Annual Whale Researcher Tour with orca expert Ken Balcomb Sunday, June 5, 2016

What: Mark your calendars, as this event only happens once a year! On June 5, Eagle Wing Tours is offering a special tour with guest Ken Balcomb, Executive Director and Principal Investigator of the Center for Whale Research. Ken has been studying the Southern Resident Killer Whales since 1976, when he founded the Orca survey. Based on San Juan Island, Ken is the area’s preeminent orca scientist, and along with a wealth of technical information, he has an endless supply of stories of the individual whales he has been studying for 40 years. For their part, the whales certainly seem to recognize him as well!

Why: 50% of proceeds from the Whale Researcher Tour go directly to the Center for Whale Research, funding continuing studies of the endangered population of Southern Resident Killer Whales. In 2013, Eagle Wing was the first whale-watching company to implement a Wildlife Fee of $2.00 per person, with 100% of those funds being split equally between the Pacific Salmon Foundation (more food for the whales!) and the Center for Whale Research. Last year, each organization was presented with a cheque for $22,847.00. That’s a lot of whale research!
