Chef de Cuisine Rupert Garcia of Lake Louise’s Post Hotel & Spa has won both the Gold Medal and the People’s Choice Award at Canada’s Great Kitchen Party, a rare double win that recognizes his technique and creative approach to Canadian cuisine.

Garcia will now advance to the national stage, where he will represent Alberta alongside Chef of Distinction Duncan Ly.

“Canada’s Great Kitchen Party is truly the culinary Olympics for chefs in this country, and to receive both the Gold Medal and People’s Choice Award is an incredible honour,” Garcia says. He credited his kitchen team for the result: “This achievement belongs to all of us. To have our work recognized by both the judges and guests makes it even more meaningful.”

A new tasting experience, opening November 12

The win comes just as the Post Hotel prepares to open Chef’s Stübli, an intimate dining experience led by Garcia and Head Sommelier Kristie Boschman. Each evening, just 20 guests will sit down to a six-course tasting menu built around exceptional ingredients and contemporary technique.

To mark Garcia’s achievement, the inaugural menu will feature a version of his award-winning dish as one of the courses. Guests will have the chance to taste the creation that impressed both judges and the public.

Reservations and details

Chef’s Stübli opens November 12, 2026, with one seating per evening, Thursday through Saturday. The six-course menu is $180 per person, plus applicable taxes and gratuities, and optional wine pairings are available. Reservations are made online through OpenTable.
